Raspberry Pi 3 B+ joins the Raspberry Pi collection

For the 2018 birthday release the Raspberry Pi 3 has been upgraded  to the Rpi3 B+ it goes faster and gets a WiFi upgrade.

RaspberryPi 3 and 3B

The headline feature are the speed of the quad core 64 bit processer has been increased from 1.2 GHz to 1.4GHz this is due to some improvments that have been made to the power managment system.

Both the Wifi and Bluetooth capabilitiies have been upgraded. Bluetooth is now using 4.2 and Wifi is now duel band, capable of both 2.4 MHz and 5GHz signals and speed. The power of both signals has also been increased allowing better connectivity. The PI3 B+ also uses the same wifi antenna the the PI Zero W which performes better than the original PI3's built in wifi does. This is packed in the metal box with the Raspberry Pi logo embosed onit.

The WiFi module is now more obvious in a metal case on the board with a Raspberry Pi logo.

RaspberryPi 3B Wifi CPU

The Ethernet port also gets and upgrade running about 3 times faster than the PI3 but as with all Raspberry Pi's the LAN is shared with USB which limits it's speed compared to Laptop and PC LAN.

There will also be a future board released which will allow the Raspberry PI 3B+ to be powered by the Ethernet port (PoE).  This will connect to the 4 pins behind the USB port. So if you intend to use a perminant LAN connection then no power supply is required at it will be taken from the 48v power the LAN uses. There are also inprovments to the Boot over LAN features.

RaspberryPi 3B POE

It is recommended the a 2.5amp power supply is used as it requires more power than the Pi3 which 2.2amps was recommended and 1.8amps for the Pi2.
